Lot Essay

Drs. E. Domela Nieuwenhuis has kindly informed us, after inspection of the originals, that he believes the female portrait to be by Moreelse and to be dated to circa 1625. He will include this picture in his forthcoming catalogue raisonné on the artist's work. However, due to the damaged state of the male portrait, he could not confirm the attribution to Moreelse for this portrait.
