Lot Essay

The design of this carpet is a direct copy of a Kashan carpet woven in the first half of the 16th century found in the Österreichisches Museum für angewandte Kunst, Vienna, which was formerly in the possession of the Imperial House of Hapsburg, (Kurt Erdmann, Oriental Carpets, Germany, 1960, fig.67.
