Finely painted after Piloty with an allegorical view of ten virgins, five considered wise or prepared with lit oil-lamps, the other five unprepared and distraught
12½ x 16¼ in. (31.5 x 42.5 cm.), within a giltwood frame

Lot Essay

Carl Theodor von Piloty (Munich 1826 - 1886 Hambach), attended the Academy of Munich. The present subject is based on the parable of the Ten Virgins. Matthew 25:1-13.
