A HELLENIZED EASTERN SILVER-GILT MEDUSA HEAD PHALERA (HORSE TRAPPING)
CIRCA 2ND CENTURY B.C.
The silver gilt relief head of the gorgon finely detailed, turned slightly to her right, with rounded cheeks, her irises incised and pupils dotted, eyebrows finely incised, her wavy hair centrally parted and drawn back from her face, long tresses flowing at either side, small wings on either side of her head, snakes above, two snakes knotted under her chin, the relief head pinned onto a slightly larger silver disc which is attached with four pins onto a large heavy silver disc, ornamented with three pairs of high conical bosses, each pair held in place on the reverse with three riveted attachment loops
