JOHN FLAMSTEED'S COPY, with his signature on the title. John Flamsteed (1646-1719), the first Astronomer Royal, is not best known for an interest in ornithology. However, Willughby can be traced to have spent time in the company of astronomers: 'on 22 July, in company with Robert Hooke and others, he observed the eclipse of the sun through Boyle's 60 foot telescope in London' (ODNB).
