Lot Essay

These amusing tables evoke the whimsy and originality so often found in the furniture produced in the 1930's and 1940's and are clearly inspired by the 'dolphin' tables of Serge Roche (1898-1988) and Ismael Gomez de la Serna (1898-1968). While Roche produced the table bases, Serna produced the graphic tops. A similar table is illustrated in P. Mauriès, Serge Roche, Paris, 2006, p. 145 and another variant is reproduced in B. Foucart and J.-L. Gaillemin, Les décorateurs des années 40, Paris, 1998, p. 240.
