Lot Essay

An identical x-frame stool, in an image from the archives of James A. Abbott, is reproduced in his Jansen Furniture. And while the Windsor provenance is by repute only, the richly detailed carving and high-style neoclassical design would have appealed to the taste of the Duke and Duchess and was evident throughout their houses in Paris and Antibes.
