Lot Essay

The extraordinary design of this table, while clearly bridging the gap between late 19th and early 20th century design, references not only art nouveau elements, but also earlier French styles of the Baroque and the Louis XV periods, with its cabriole legs and scrolled carving and floral-inspired inlay. It is also an unusual combination of metal inlay and exotic woods -- which are cut to great dramatic and pictorial effect.
