Lot Essay

We wish to thank Mr Richard Bionda for confirming the authenticity of the present lot on the basis of a photograph. He dates the present lot circa 1859-1860, shortly after the artist returned from Antwerp. It has been suggested the painting was part of the collection of the artist's brother, Jacob Maris (1837-1899).
