Lot Essay

The silversmith who announced himself in the inscription of the interior of the lid is Wouter Muller, Emden 1604-Amsterdam 1673, who in his time was a reputed medallion and plaquette maker.
The battle scene on the interior refers to the first Anglo-Dutch war (1652-1654).
