The Act of Union was the Act of Parliament passed in 1800 that merged the kingdom of Ireland and unified Great Britain, the combination of the three emblems was a favourite of George IV. C.f. D. Scarisbrick, "Ancestral jewels", London,1989, p. 77, platt 101, for a jewelled necklace displaying similar emblems, given to Baroness Willoughby De Eresby by George IV on his coronation in 1821
