Lot Essay

The sitter was the eldest son of William, 2nd Earl of Kintore and his wife Catherine, daughter of David Murray, 4th Viscount Stormont. In August 1729, he married Mary, daughter of the Hon. James Erskine, but died without an heir in 1758 and was succeeded by his brother, William, 4th Earl of Kintore.
