Lot Essay

The canvas is unlined. Under UV there is flaring to the neck of the urn where restoration has been carried out. There is a spot of retouching to the left of the sitter's head and to the upper left edge which each correspond to patches on the back of the canvas. There are two patches on the reverse to the lower right where restoration has been carried out but these do not flare. There is some paint shrinkage, notably to the lower left corner, towards the bottom right and around her hat. There is superficial surface dirt and the varnish is slightly discoloured. This work would benefit from a clean.
