Stanley Baxter, 'The comedy king of Scotland', was born in Glasgow in 1926. His immense popularity as a comedian and mimic made him a regular on British television. His spectacular hour long shows featuring elaborate musical routines earnt him huge audiences as well as numerous guest appearances on some of the best known programmes of the 1960s and 70s including The Goodies and Upstairs Downstairs. He won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Comedy Awards and three BAFTAs.
