Lot Essay

Abraham Teerlink is well-known for his Italian landscapes. The painter lived in Rome from 1808 until his death in 1857. Teerlink was born in Dordrecht and was educated in this town by Michiel Versteegh (1756-1843) and Arnoldus Lamme (1771-1856). From October 1805 until September 1807 Teerlink was a working member of the drawing society Pictura in Dordrecht. This vivid watercolour with skaters was executed in this period and is an early Dutch example of a finished drawing by this master.
