Lot Essay

Mari ten Kate mostly depicted little children playing outside in a courtyard, a forest or a garden often engaging in charming little deeds of mischief. These worked out, colourful independent watercolours with children would have found a ready market with art lovers in the 19th century and are still inspiring pictures for collectors today.
