A DAMASCENED STEEL QAJAR HELMET AND SHIELD, IRAN, 19TH CENTURY
The helmet with side plume holders and central nose guard, spike surmouted to top, chain mail attached below, incised with inscription cartouches around rim, above lions and sun faces on a floral ground, shield with four raised bosses surround an central bossed moulded in form of a face with radiating damascened rays, further similar engraved faces surrounding, all on a ground of tight floral design, inscription cartouches in ovals and circles surrounding, and body chain mail - shield 18 1/8in (46.5cm) diam (3) (3)
