TWO SECTIONS FROM A SAFAVID BINDING AND ANOTHER SECTION, IRAN, 17TH CENTURY
Comprising one board and the flap, the lacquered exterior with a ground of floral arabesques within a frame of cloud scrolls reserved in black on a gold ground, the flap with an angel appearing to Muhammad, the doublures with decoupe central medallion with cobalt ground, spandrels and borders with similar gilt and decoupe decoration to borders and reverse of flap, and another partial red binding with large sprays of gilt floral decoration, partial gilt medallion to reverse - board 9 1/8 x 5 1/4in (23.5 x 13.3cm) (3)
