Cups and saucers painted by Désiré Leroy are incredibly rare. As a writer for The Pall Mall Magazine, December 1906, stated 'there can be little doubt that when [Leroy's] work is 'antique' it will be worth its weight in gold, for everything that comes from his cunning hand is a unique gem of art itself.' For a further discussion of the artist, see the note to lot 33.
