Lot Essay

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Norwood MacGilvary received artistic training in the Bay area of northern California at Berkeley and the Mark Hopkins Institute. He exhibited at the Paris salon, Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Carnegie Institute, where he also held a teaching position from 1921-43.
