A Dutch silver brandy bowl
Maker's mark of Jan Melchers Oostervelt, Leeuwarden, 1647 and also struck with later duty mark 1906-1953
The octagonal stepped base chased with fruits flanked by cherubs, the similarly-shaped body engraved with five Biblical scenes in oval cartouches, depicting The Sacarifice of Isaac; The Adoration of the shepards; The presentation in the Temple; The Adoration of the Magi; The Flight to Egypt, flanked by two engravings of fruits and an alliance coat-of-arms with the initials SP and SR above and the date 1647 below, with two moulded and pierced handles decorated with cherubs and foliage
