Lot Essay
The present plaquettes appear to be the only known silver examples of this model. A set of twelve bronze plaquettes including two identical to the present lot are preserved in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. One may assume that the plaquettes in the Rijksmuseum may have been copied from the silver-gilt ones of which two are offered in this sale. The bronze plaquettes are fractionally smaller than the present examples and were almost certainly cast from them.
For identical plaquettes from a set of twelve but made in bronze, see Frederiks, J.W. Dutch Silver, The Hague 1952, part I nr. 116 i and 116 l. see illustration
