Elongated octagonal, the base set with a compass with a blued-iron needle and engraved and nielloed with the names and latitudes of various continental cities, the hour ring engraved and nielloed with Roman numbers I-IX and III-XII, with small brass pointer, the folding latitude arc engraved for 5-90°, signed 'Johann Martin Inn Augsburg', with an associated shagreen covered part case
