Oval, the base and detachable cover each with a lobed band, the cover applied with an oval enamel plaque painted with St. John the Evangelist, depicted sitted on an eagle with a scroll in his lap and holding a pen, all in a landscape, marked underneath, the base and foot further marked with a later French import mark
