Lot Essay

For a group from which the present figure is taken, see the white example illustrated by F.H. Hofmann, Frankenthaler Porzellan Münich, 1911, Vol. II, pl. 108, no. 448, where the author attributes this as an allegotry of theatrical arts, although it is more probable that the present figure is more likely an alchemist.
