The origin of these notched discs are probably from small ornaments found at neolithic sites in Liaoning province. Although no other discs of exact shape such as the present pair appear to have been published, the material, the style and the workmanship all point to a Neolithic date. For a detailed discussion of these discs see Yang Meili, 'Pu an cheng daojue, yabi qi xuanji', Gugong wenwu yuekan, no. 128, November 1993, pp. 68-76.
