FROM THE COLLECTION OF THE LATE GEORGES ADOLPHE THIBAULT
Georges Adolphe Thibault was a French jeweller at the height of his profession during the 1920's and 1930's in Paris. He created exquisite pieces typical of the Art Deco period and of a standard of workmanship worthy of any of the great houses of the time. As well as being a craftsman of great repute Thibault was also an inventor of many innovative ideas in jewellery design.
His reputation amoungst his contempories is perhaps best described in the words of Monsieur Boucheron, in a letter dated the 24th September 1928, where Boucheron expresses his pleasure in Thibault's acceptance of his son Frederick Boucheron as an apprentice to Monsieur Thibault's firm, he writes "Je suis persuadé qu'il y recevra, mieux que partout ailleurs, les premiers principes de sa future profession".
This collection is not only exciting as it has been stored by Thibault's family in Paris since the 1930's, because many of the pieces carry Georges Thibault's maker's mark or because the original designs are available for a number of the pieces it is also fascinating as it provides a history of a jeweller held in the highest esteem by his contempories, who was designing and producing works of exceptional quality during a time when Paris was leading the world in the design of Art Deco jewellery.
