Lot Essay

This work is AP1 from the sold-out edition of 10 + 2 AP.

Deroo states: 'As a photographer I am interested in capturing spaces, both inhabited and abandoned, but usually with no one visible in the photograph. I am fascinated by the way, even in absence, people continue to remain visible in their spaces. Of course this is usually more of a feeling, than something one can state as fact.'(Artist Statement, 2008)

Deroo's work has been exhibited internationally in dozens of solo and group shows, including In Sight and is held in private, corporate and institutional collections, such as Goldman Sachs, New York; LaSalle National Bank, Chicago; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Musée nationale d'Art moderne -- Centre Georges Pompidou and Bibliothèque national de France, Paris; and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. She is widely published and has won numerous grants from The Foundation for the Arts of the Netherlands. She lives and works in New York and Amsterdam.
