Lot Essay

The Montelbaan gun tower was built in 1516 to guard the Oude Schans canal, and its octagonal steeple was added in 1606 to a design by Hendrick de Keyser. It became an important addition to the city's sky-line, and was painted by numerous artists including Rembrandt.
