Lot Essay

The tabouret stools are designed in the early l9th century French/Grecian fashion with elegantly scrolled rails enriched with triumphal bas-relief tablets of palms and laurels issuing from flowered libation-paterae and tapered and reed-enriched pilaster legs terminating in lion feet. Among the leading chair-makers working in this style was the court furniture maker Ephraim Stahl (d.1820) (see E. Nordenfelt, Ephraim Stahl, Stockholm, 2007).
