Lot Essay

This carved panel may be considered with other chests and panels with carved fronts also depicting St George and the dragon which are to be found in York Minster, Ypres Cathedral and The Gruuthuse Museum, Bruges and are well-documented. A chair in Majorca with very similar detail in the carving is illustrated in J.C.Rubira Spanish period furniture designs, New York, 1984
