THE RISKS OF A NAZI INVASION OF SWITZERLAND: on the verso of a letter from his sister Maja in which she discusses Einstein's difficulties in contributing more to Mileva's house (even suggesting she think of moving to the country), Einstein himself adds a note on the same subject, regretting that all the money he has poured into the house will be lost, and explaining that 'the house will in any case be taken away , if it comes to an invasion (enemy property) [Das Haus wird übrigens sowieso weggenommen, wenn es zu einer Invasion kommt (feindliches Eigentum)]'; Mileva and Eduard should prepare for this eventuality. On a more positive note, their young grandson Bernhard ('Hadi'), who is staying with Einstein and adds a pencilled note to the same page, is a fine fellow, and thoroughly enjoying himself: 'Schwimmt wie ein Fisch, brüllt und frisst wie ein Löwe'. The second letter from Maja expresses sympathy at Mileva's sad news and discusses her ambivalent feelings about her new home in America; the letter from Frieda and Hans Albert sends news of a family holiday with Einstein at Knollwood, during which Hans Albert has been able to hold much scientific talk with this father.
