Type: 5:87bG, 6:178G. 2- to 6-line initials in red. (Neat marginal repairs in first, last and 2 other leaves, neat tear into text repaired in p1, r2.7 on guards, apparently due to missigning the sheet.) Modern binding of half blindstamped leather over old wooden boards, single fore-edge clasp. Provenance: a few contemporary marginal annotations -- Hastadt/Hastack?, Capucin convent, gift inscription from a Count Frederic von [--]berg (early inscription washed from first blank recto).
Printed at the first press at Reutlingen, and one of the few dated editions printed by Greyff. A medieval best-seller, the Legenda aurea was one of the most popular compilations of saints' lives.
