4° (280 x 228 mm). 48 engraved plates, many partly hand-coloured, numerous illustrations. (Scattered spotting, some spotting and browning, pen and ink trials on the last leaf, a few mostly marginal repairs). Modern morocco, by Roger Powell, remnant of the original printed paper label and conservation report pasted on the inside rear cover. Provenance: sold by a charitable trust.

FIRST EDITION. 'The first extensively illustrated general treatise on plastic surgery published in Europe' (Garrison-Morton). Fritze and Reich were students of Dieffenbach's. As this pioneer in the field never published a comprehensive textbook specifically on plastic surgery, Fritze's work also fills an important gap in recording the achievements of Dieffenbach and his students. Garrison-Morton 5746.4; Waller 3275.
