Modelled with serene expression, aquiline nose and pouting lips, the headdress, ears and sides of the face with gilt-lacquered decoration

Lot Essay

Buddha Shakyamuni 'the Sage of the Shakya's', was born in Lumbini in the foothills of the Himalayas. He attained enlightenment in Bodhgaya, tunred the wheel of the Dharma in Sarnath and died in Kushinagar.
