Late 18th century
The serpentine twin-flap top with an ebonised moulded edge above a frieze drawer to each end, formerly with one frieze drawer and a false drawer now adapted, and flanked by fan paterae-headed square tapering legs terminating in brass caps and castors, one drawer bearing a label for 'Morant & Co./91, New Bond Street, 273', the other bearing a label for 'The Colony Shops/Ginsburg & Levy/Incorporated/Antiques/815 Madison Ave. New York'

In 1790 George Morant - decorator, carver, gilder and cabinet maker - established his Bond Street premises. Later styled as George Morant & Son (1825-39), Messrs George Morant applied successfully for Royal Appointment at the beginning of Queen Victoria's reign on the recommendation of the Duchess of Gloucester.
