Enclosed by a moat and forming three sides of a quadrangle, the majority of Moreton Old Hall was built in 1540 by Sir William Moreton and subsequent generations have added to the building to create its current structure. Still standing today it was described by Aldin as 'one of the most beautiful old houses we have, of what is usually known as the "Magpie" type, so typical of Cheshire and Lancashire.'
