Lot Essay

With its distinctive lyre support and gilt enrichments, this centre table is closely related to similar examples at Rosendal, Carl XIV Johan's estate in Djugarden just outside Stockholm, which was furnished circa 1825-30. The architect chosen to design the castle was Fredric Blom (1781-1853), most of the interiors were decorated by Pehr Emanuel Limnell (1764-1861) and many items of furniture were supplied by Lorenz Wilhelm Lindelius (1787-1859). However, Lindelius probably subcontracted some of the work to other cabinet-makers and the present table is similar to a work-table made for Crown Princess Josephine by Johan Öman, and might have been made by him rather than Lindelius.
