These elegant X-frame stools are virtually identical to a pair of white-painted examples in Queen Charlotte's Dressing Room at Rosersberg, decorated in Pompeiian style in 1810 by architect Gustaf af Sillen (1762-1825), who may also have provided the design for the stools. Af Sillen became Court Intendant 1796, and worked at Rosersberg from 1797 onwards. When both King Carl III and Queen Charlotte died in 1818, their adopted son became King Carl XIV Johan, and together with his wife Queen Desiree, he used the estate extensively (H. Groth, Neoclassicism in the North, London, 1990, pp. 144-145).
