La Tâche Grand Cru--Vintage 1969
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
All with slightly corroded capsules. All these bottles have been packed in polyshipper cartons following their removal from bins, they have closely grouped bottle numbers. Lot 192 labels all legible but with bin-soiled and damp-affected remains of original tissues attached. Labels also mostly bin-soiled and or damp-affected. Levels: three 3, six 3.5 and three 4cms. below base of corks. Lot 193 two without main labels and five vintage strip labels missing. Remaining labels all legible but with bin-soiled and damp-affected remains of original tissues attached. Labels also mostly bin-soiled and or damp-affected. Levels: one 3, two 4.5, six 5 and three 6cms below base of corks
Tasting Note: Seemed to veer from puberty to adolescence in the mid-1970s and 1980s when I found it lacked the flair of the '62 and '66. But by the 1990s, it became fully evolved, fragrant, lovely texture and delicious flavour. Most recently: medium-deep, mature, open rim; initially a vegetal whiff but developed a lovely citrus-like fragrance; dry, lean, austere but with a delicious and distinctive flavour and unusually disposed tannin and acidity. Perfection. Last tasted July 2003 **** M.B. See also lot 447
