Château Léoville-Barton--Vintage 1995
Saint-Julien, 2me cru classé
Tasting Note: "Léoville Barton 1995: Cabernet Sauvignon 72 Mertlot 20 Cabernet Franc 8 Nine notes starting with a good cask sample in May 1996. Lean but fragrant the following year. Three in October 1999, the first at George Blanc's restaurant in Vonnas, the next at the annual wine dinner at the Knickerbocker Club in New York: impressive, substantial. The following day at the 'Super-seconds' tasting, as correct and gentlemanly as Anthony Barton who introduced his wine. One month later at the MW tasting: delicious, mouthfilling, spicy. Even more so at Vinopolis and the opening wine at Christie's Three Léovilles/three vintages tasting in March 2001: refreshing, charming overall dry. Most recently in a line-harmonious nose with quite different character to the '91, '92 and '93; lovely flavour and texture. Mocha, okay, tannic finish. Tasted at the Château, Oct 2001. Classic, archetypal St-Julien. Rich, dense, mouthfilling yet exuding charm. Fragrant, harmonious; very oaky but good flesh. Drinking deliciously. Last tasted May 2006 ***(**) Now - 2020 ***(**).
