8° (215 x 155mm). With the half-title, and final two blank leaves. With additional manuscript verses written on 13 pages in a clear hand in purple ink. (Slightly spotted.) Original reddish-brown printed wrappers (slightly frayed, spine torn), uncut.

Second (first expanded) edition of the author's first published collection of poetry, which originally appeared in 1913. Born in Warsaw to a wealthy Jewish family, who moved to St. Petersburg shortly after his birth, Mandel'shtam studied in Paris, Heidelberg and St. Petersburg, before becoming one of the leading poets of the Acmeist school. Following the discovery of his 'Stalin Epigram' he was exiled to the northern Urals, being allowed to return to Moscow in 1937. Re-arrested for 'counter revolutionary activities' he died in a gulag transit camp near Vladivostok. The additional manuscript verses are mostly variants which appeared in the 1923 edition of the work. Tarasenkov p.225.
