A Group of six inro, 18th and 19th Century
a three case inro on a kinji ground with lead and aogai with an ox and a young boy; another similar but on roiro ground with Kanzan and Jittoku; a four case roiro ground inro decorated in iroe takamakie and hiramakie with Chinese figures and a crane; another similar with aogai and gold hiramakie with fans, rice pickers and a paddy field; a roiro ground three case inro in iroe takamakie and aogai with a budding and flowering plum tree; the last of cylindrical form on a kinji ground inlaid in aogai, with dragonflies, stylised seal signature to the base, walrus tooth netsuke applied with a copper wasp -- 7/16in. (6.2cm.) long maximum (6)
Provenance
The second inro with a note attributing it to having been part of the Lt. Col. J.B. Gaskell Collection Sale, Glendinnings, Nov 1920, and with a label 'G 1058'.
The second inro from the last with unknown collection label '1568'.
