A WAKIZASHI WITH A CLOISONNÉ MOUNTING
MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY)
The mounting decorated in cloisonné with chrysanthemum and paulownia mon and blossoms, leaves scrolling, and long-tailed flying birds all in varigated colours on a predominantly red enamelled metal ground with bands of blue and black edged with silver and gilt, the tsuba of cusped mokko shape also with gilt rim, the habaki with formal mon, the blade of length 38.5cm, has a clearly defined gunome hamon and tight itame hada and is inscribed Soshu (no) ju Akihiro, in shirasaya
