Château Mouton-Rothschild--Vintage 1978
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Slightly corroded capsules. Three slightly raised corks. Slightly bin-soiled labels. Levels: one base of neck, three top-shoulder, two just below top-shoulder, two upper-shoulder and one mid/upper-shoulder
Tasting Note: Plummy-coloured, very flavoury at the MW tasting in 1982. Murky, muffled and moderate at Flatt's vertical in 1986 and lacking excitement at Penning-Rowsell's '10-years' tasting. Not unlike the '76 alongside and quite attractive at a lunch in 1994. Most recently, not exactly well-paired with homard du Maine aux ceps et au curry at a charity dinner in New York. It survived. Stylish. Drinking agreeably. December 1996 *** M.B.
