EARLY 19TH CENTURY, POSSIBLY SCOTTISH
Of sarcophagus form, the canted rectangular hinged top enclosing a lead-lined interior with bottle-compartments and draining-hole and plug, above panelled sides, with bead-and-reel moulded edge, between canted reeded angles, on bronzed paw feet and a concave-sided canted rectangular plinth, with sunk brass castors, the underside with White and Co., Portsmouth depository label, inscribed 'No. 102' and '20238', the supporting rails of the cellaret in ash

A cellaret of virtually identical form was sold by Sir Ralph and Lady Halpern, Christie's, London, 24 February 2005, lot 76.
The use of ash in the construction of the plinth is a feature found in Socttish cabinet-making.
