CERETTO'S BRICCO ASILI AND FASET: TWO ICONS OF BARBARESCO

BRICCO ASILI

A vineyard of undeniable fascination, the vineyard of Asili produces the perfect raw material that translates into a special finesse, elegance and charm in the finished wine. The color is never as intense as in neighboring Rabaj but with time, its expression of terroir becomes self evident. Asili, the vineyard, owes its fame historically to the Produttori del Barbaresco (local co-op), who have been releasing a selection since 1971, and to Ceretto, whose Bricco Asili has made Barbaresco a household name around the world. The vineyard covers an entire hill and takes its name from the village on its western slopes. To the west, Asili borders on the Faset bowl at the top and the Pora hill further down the hill. To the east it touches the great vineyard known as Rabaj and to the south it extends all the way to Martinenga. It's northern boundary is the peak of the hill itself. The nobel varietal Nebbiolo is planted to the warmest sites with lesser varietals taking root in cooler positions on the hill.

FASET

The line of the hillslope from Asili is uneven, because of this Faset offers a range of very different aspects. This highly irregular configuration of the Faset slope, and its considerable length, make it difficult to profile Nebbiolo from this hill. What is commonly agreed upon is that the grapes need hot weather, like in 1985, to express an innate elegance.

"The 1997 Barbaresco Bricco Asili-Faset's exquisite perfume offers aromas of ginger, cedar, cigar box, and cherry liqueur. Excellent concentration, medium to full body, undeniable elegance, soft tannin, and copious glycerin result in a seductive wine to enjoy over the next 12-15 years."
