CIRCA 1775, THE FIGURE WITH BLUE ENTWINED C MARK, IMPRESSED A.37 AND 3 PM, AND IRON-RED S; THE PEDESTAL WITH BLUE SCRIPT CAPITAL F AND INCISED Z TO THE PEDESTAL
The gardener modeled standing next to a tree-stump, a bunch of moss or grass under his arm; the stepped square plinth enriched with gilt bands

Provenance
Anonymous sale; Kunsthaus Lempertz, Cologne, 18 November 1966, lot 1128 (the figure).
Dr. and Mrs. Leopold Katzenstein, Wiesbaden, expropriated amd dispersed at public auction under the Nazi regime, 1943, restituted through an antique dealer, April 1945 (the pedestal which was at that time supporting a Fürstenburg biscuit bust of Drusus, now lacking).
