Wittenberg: Hans Lufft, 1553, translated by Martin Luther]. 4° (199 x 160mm). 38 large woodcut illustrations by Lucas Cranach the younger and his school, many full-page, historiated woodcut initials with the blank k10 (lacks the title and following 3 leaves (gathering A) and the last 7 leaves of the register, including the two final blanks, gathering Pp at end nearly detached, mainly marginal dust and finger-soiling, occasional light marginal waterstaining). Contemporary German panelled pigskin over wooden boards, dated 1557 on front cover, lavishly stamped in blind, depicting biblical scenes in outer panel, small portraits in inner panel, raised bands (lacking clasps, quite rubbed, stronger on rear cover, raised bands lightly worn, soiled).
