FIRST EDITION. RARE. Ruskin's first separately-published work. The poem Salsetta and Elephanta won The Newdigate Prize in 1839, and was recited by the author in the Sheldonian Theatre. This was also the year Ruskin first met Wordsworth. Shepherd (fourth edition) p.4.
